Sean Hashmi, MD, MS, FASN. Board-certified in nephrology, obesity medicine, and internal medicine. Founder of SELF Principle, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
The work started in loss.
Losing his sister, and watching his own family struggle with their health, changed his path. In clinical practice, he also saw how often kidney disease and metabolic risk were recognized only after damage had accumulated. His focus became earlier detection, prevention, and clear education alongside treatment.
Kidney damage can develop without symptoms. For people with diabetes or high blood pressure, blood and urine tests can reveal risk or damage before they feel sick. That is why his teaching starts with the kidneys and connects them to the metabolic conditions that often drive disease.
