About
Why this work matters
For fifteen years, Dr. Sean Hashmi treated kidney disease and the metabolic conditions that drive it. The same problem kept repeating: we wait until people are sick, then scramble to fix the damage.
Sean Hashmi, MD, MS, FASN. Board-certified in nephrology, obesity medicine, and internal medicine. Founder of SELF Principle, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

The work started in loss.
Losing his sister, and watching his own family struggle with their health, changed his path. He left the treat-the-symptom model behind to focus on something harder and slower: teaching people the science of staying healthy before anything goes wrong.
That is why the teaching starts with the kidneys. High blood pressure and high blood sugar quietly show up there years before most people notice a symptom, and almost nobody is taught to look.
