Health information
This site is not a covered entity under HIPAA, and no doctor and patient relationship is created through it. Please do not send personal health information, lab results, medical records, or details about your own treatment through any form on this site. Anything you do send is not protected health information under HIPAA and cannot be answered with medical advice.

What is collected
When you subscribe to the newsletter or request the free kidney guide. Your email address, and the date you subscribed.
When you submit the contact form. Your name and email address, and whatever you choose to put in the other fields, including organization, phone number, and the text of your message.
Automatically, when you visit. Like almost every website, this one records technical information sent by your browser: IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, the pages you visited, the time of the visit, and the site you arrived from. This happens through the website platform, Wix, and its built-in analytics.
Cookies and similar technologies. This site uses cookies that are necessary for it to work, and analytics cookies that are set only if you agree through the cookie banner. You can refuse non-essential cookies through the banner, and you can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
What is not collected. This site does not ask for or intentionally collect your date of birth, government identifiers, financial account details, payment card numbers, or health information. It does not sell anything, so no payment data is processed.
Why it is used
To send you the weekly email, if you asked for it.
To reply to an inquiry you sent.
To understand which pages people read, in aggregate, so the site can be improved.
To keep the site secure and working, and to detect abuse.
To meet legal obligations.
Your information is not sold. It is not rented. It is not shared for anyone else's advertising.
Who else is involved
Running a website means using service providers. Each one only receives what it needs.
Wix, the website platform, hosts the site and stores contact form submissions and newsletter signups. Wix processes technical data as part of hosting.
Kit, the email platform, stores your email address and delivers the newsletter and the free kidney guide if you request them.
YouTube and Google, when a video is embedded or linked. Playing an embedded video means YouTube may set cookies and receive data about your visit, under Google's own privacy policy rather than this one.
Information may also be disclosed if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety or legal rights, or as part of a business transfer.
The email you receive
If you subscribe, you get the weekly email. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. You can also email hello@seanhashmimd.com and ask to be removed.
Subscribing to the newsletter is separate from sending an inquiry. Sending an inquiry through the contact form does not subscribe you to anything.
How long information is kept
Newsletter subscribers are kept until you unsubscribe, and for a short period afterward so you are not accidentally re-added.
Inquiries are kept for as long as needed to handle the request and keep a record of the correspondence.
Technical and analytics data is kept on the retention schedule of the platform that collected it.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see what information is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. You can unsubscribe at any time. To make a request, email hello@seanhashmimd.com. Your identity may need to be verified before a request is fulfilled.
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended gives you the right to know what personal information is collected and disclosed, to request deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. This site does not sell or share personal information, and it does not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising. You also have the right not to be treated differently for exercising these rights, and nothing on this site treats you differently if you do.
If you live outside the United States, including in the UK or the European Economic Area, note that information is stored and processed in the United States. Depending where you live you may have additional rights over your information, and you can exercise them through the same email address.
Children
This site is intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information, email hello@seanhashmimd.com and it will be deleted.
Security
Reasonable measures are taken to protect information, including relying on established platforms with their own security programmes. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be promised.
Links out
This site links to other places, including YouTube, SELF Principle, and other sites. This policy does not cover them. Read their policies.
Changes
This policy may be updated. The effective date at the top changes when it does. Material changes will be noted on this page.
